Helping Student-Athletes Navigate the College Athletic Recruiting Process...

Choosing a college is a very important and difficult decision.  Since most student-athletes are "going pro" in something other than the sport they play, the athletic aspect of a college should not be the only criteria used in selecting a college.  Also, a scholarship (or the amount offered) should be one of the aspects used in evaluating an offer from a college or university, but not the only one.

Every student-athlete should consider a number of personal preferences when evaluating a college or university.  This choice will determine where the student learns, lives, and plays for the next 4 (or more) years.  It will also set the tone for the rest of his/her professional, and often personal, life.  Make sure that you take the time to determine which of these key factors (and others of your own choosing) are most important to you:

  • School Size
  • Geographic Location
  • Community Type
  • Climate
  • Living Space Options
  • Public Vs. Private
  • Majors Offered
  • Academic Reputation
  • Religious Affiliation
  • Scholarship/Grants Available
  • Out-of-Pocket Expenses
  • Sport Division
  • Success of Sport Program
  • Playing Time
  • Commitment-Level Required
  • Parents  Attendance
  • Coaching Philosophy
  • Team Chemistry
  • Facilities Available
