Helping Student-Athletes Navigate the College Athletic Recruiting Process...

Typically college coaches begin tracking student athletes during their freshman and sophomore years so that they can send out questionnaires potential recruits during the beginning of the junior year.
College Coaches can become aware of potential recruits by:

  1. HS/Club Coaches Recommendation
  2. National Rankings
  3. High-Profile Tournaments/Showcase Camps
  4. Team/Skills Camps
  5. Newspapers/Magazines
  6. Personal Contact

To be most effective, student-athletes should make sure that the college coaches at schools-of-interest should receive an athletic profile and introduction letter prior to the junior year season.  Of course it is possible to “catch-up” if an athlete doesn’t start the recruiting process during the freshman or sophomore year or if their talent doesn’t really blossom until later.

Families can choose to have some help in the recruiting arena or to do it on their own.  Either way, getting a solid foundation about the recruiting process is essential in order to help your child make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
